EQUAL - International Partnership Together and Across (2005 - 2008)

Term of realization:
2005-2008
Within international partnership of the Equal project we have achieved several goals.

We wished to accomplish

We were aiming to cooperate with partners focusing on dealing with low adaptability and education and poor employability of the Roma and other ethnic minorities who face similar barriers. The intention of the international cooperation was to cooperate with organizations from the EU states regarding similar topics and sectors. We hoped to educate bilaterally in this way, to gain new experience, different attitudes and solutions of problems connected with discrimination and inequality in the labour market (focused specifically on the Roma population and members of ethnic minorities), to analyse and develop together the innovative models, to share success and difficulties interactively during implementation of analogically focused programmes.

We accomplished

In the course of the previous cooperation, we have gained a better insight in terms of individual forms of discrimination and inequality in the labour market. Methodologies of the individual involved partners were assessed and methodologies, strategies and steps planned in own projects were strengthened and improved.

Gendalos – Educational and Scholarship Programme

Term of realization:
1. 5. 2014 – 1. 5. 2015
Gendalos programme supports underprivileged secondary school and university students in the age of 15 to 26 years, especially the Roma, for whom the cost related to education can be a serious obstacle. The program offers financial assistance to highly motivated Romany students through the Gandalos scholarship fund. The assistance is provided in four main areas: 1) buying school aids and materials, 2) providing tutoring, 3) buying public transport passes, and 4) financial aid for students of private schools.

These areas were selected based on long-term experience with the target group and the challenges they meet during their studies. The support is directed to families in poor financial situation in order to help children and teenagers achieve good education and subsequent success in their working life. Education is a way to escape poverty, social exclusion and cyclical problems appearing generation after generation. The only way out of these problems is to complete one's education and subsequently find a place in the labour market.

Together without Prejudice

Term of realization:
1. 1. 2013 – 31. 12. 2013
Donors:
Evropská komise
Ministerstvo práce a sociálních věcí
Evropská unie
The general focus of the project is on fighting discrimination and promoting equal treatment. The goal is to help improve public's negative attitudes towards the Czech Roma and therefore improve their chances to live a life without discrimination and be fully-fledged and respected members of society.

A set of community and PR activities and strategic negotiations is realized within the project, targeting both the general public and specific target groups which are, for various reasons, seen as the key to eliminate social exclusion and promote better cohabitation. The specific target groups are: employers, students of elementary and secondary schools and institutions of self-government.

The campaign mypracujeme (wework) created as a part of this project (in collaboration between the Roma, IQ Roma service and the Comtech agency) won the best integrated campaign of 2013 award and the Grand Prix award in the Czech Direct & Promo Awards competition.

You Don't Have Much, but You Have the Power!

Term of realization:
1. 4. 2015 – 31. 3. 2016
The project reflects the high level of discrimination against the Roma in the Czech Republic. This fact is well known and in essence tolerated, but it is usually not officially acknowledged. According to a survey conducted in 2013 as much as 78% inhabitants of the Czech Republic have a negative view of the Roma. The Roma have minimal representation in the decision making processes, but they also do not actively seek it. The main goal of the project is to involve Roma in the fight against ethnic discrimination through a statewide campaign accompanied by motivational activities in the South Moravia region, professional counseling, and legal aid. The project will create a citizen platform, a group of active Roma and other people who, through their own involvement, will help  improve the situation. The secondary goal is to establish good collaboration between IQ Roma servis and other institutions (especially the Czech Trade Inspection Authority, the Office of the Public Defender of Rights, the police, etc.) in order to ensure coordinated approach to solving discrimination cases. We will also provide methodical support to employees of both non-governmental organizations and state institutions, by creating a methodical manual, preparing an educational course and an expert conference.

Financial support:
The project is supported by the EHP funds through a grant from Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway.
